Laming, I kept all my PW transformers but added a PowerMaster to each power block. This enables me to run conventional engines with my TMCC CAB-1 (a tech generation behind, admittedly). The PowerMasters also provide a fast acting circuit breaker like a modern transformer. I've purchased used PowereMasters for $20-$30.
