Lionel SP-SF Merger SD40T-2 Zinc Pest Crumbling Truck Side Frames

I have a Lionel SP-SF Merger SD40T-2 that belonged to my grandfather and now me. This locomotive has very little run time on it and was kept in a well controlled environment. I took it out of my display case yesterday and 2 of the 4 truck side frames literally fell off in pieces. The other 2 are warped, cracking and almost ready to fall off. Lionel parts lists show these particular side frames are no longer available but other SD40T-2 truck side frames are.
Has anyone tried any of the newer SD40T-2 truck side frames as a replacement?
