At a minimum, i'd use 4. one at each of the ends(east/west), and one at north/south. That way, the engine won't be more than 5 feet from a lockon. Realtrax if properly put together will have good connections from section to section, you'll just have to see if the engine slows down in between lockons. then add another lockon.
