Gents, looks like the consensus is the 260-E, most likely with nickel journals.  Question, is the 260-E a large engine, similar in size to the 263 pictured at the head of the Blue Comet?

And so, another hunt begins....  And what to sell to finance the chase?  (I'll move a few 2800 and 8800 series cars).

You folks really helped me today, thank you very much.

Chuck

The 260-E and 263-E are essentially the same engine with respect to size and overall appearance. Probably the most noticeable difference is the smoke box front; the one on the 263-E has class/marker lights, while the smoke box front used on the 260-E does not, but instead has small pockets for flags. The tenders are also slightly different; the 260-T did not have a whistle and was offered with both 4-wheel and 6-wheel trucks, and the 2263W had a whistle and was fitted with 6-wheel trucks only.
