I agree, from this angle it doesn't look bad at all. A 7/16" difference would be noticeable.
I think is because the RS-27 has a 9' 4" wheel base which is closer to the prototype. Some of the 4 axle Baldwins and Alcos had trucks with an 8' wheel base. I think the MTH (and maybe also Weaver) sharks used these smaller trucks, and they look pretty odd IMO. I think here in your case, the difference is only an 1/8".
