Thanks for the explanation, Marty. I would have guessed that Lionel might have required their partners to also keep the protocols confidential. Maybe going public was a way to stimulate outside development, but I'm not sure they can be too happy about how this turned out.
Looks like the real benefit then, is not having to juggle two remotes.
