Magic Carpet drives for Corgi PCC and Birney?

The options for powering these cars seems very limited--GHB is out of 2-rail power units for the Birney and PCC, and I don't have good info on the availability of Black Beetle drives.

The reliability of either drive seems to be in question, and I understand that the Bowser drives use larger-than-scale wheels, and they also intrude into the passenger compartment of the cars.

I'm wondering about using 26" wheeled Magic Carpet drives to power the PCC cars. I have no problem building a truck frame that will hold the drives. Has anyone done this?

I have a couple of MC drive units with 40" wheels. I've used them on a R/C diesel project and they worked just fine.
