Making figures stand on their own feet

I know I can glue figures on bases with white glue to layout, but if I want to remove them, alot of times the underlying latex paint pulls off from the foam or other material.

I was thinking spirit gum like used for theater makeup might work, as you can put on mustaches etc and easily remove later.

Any other ideas to keep figures upright and yet re positionable?
