I ordered and received 6 tanker cars from Menard's just recently with the plastic trucks. I am very pleased with the appearance and overall quality and would order again. However, I found that 2 out of the 6 have at least one axle that doesn't spin freely and 2 cars that derails at times. I oiled all the wheels before placing them on the track and repeated again just to make sure but the problem was still there. I didn't measure the spacing between the wheels but there is some extra play that shouldn't be there.
How do I re-gauge the spacing? Are special tools needed?
As far as the axle, could that be too long putting it in a bind?
