Thank you, Jake, for starting the thread without me. Don't worry about my toes. Many of the recent Wednesdays have been too busy for me to stay on top of my Internet duties. Here are some of my pics from recent weeks.
While driving back East from my visit to Chicago a few weeks back, I stopped at this fantastic place in Monon , IN. The Monon Connection is the private collection of one man who earned his fortune through selling limestone. It has no locomotives, and very little track, but it has nearly every other thing railroad related.
Traveling two states away to find a bit of home in North Central Indiana.
It is an eclectic mix of things, mainly Indiana related, but so many pieces from railroads around the nation.
Where else would you find an M&StL boxcar, wooden and in full scale? Plus, a Kingan refrigerator car. I have never even seen a model of a Kingan car.
Almost TYCO in its shape, this streamlined caboose.
More crossing signs than any railroad crossing ever needed.
So many curiosities on display. The lamps, gramophone, cash register and lanterns were all part of the era, even if they were not always railroad related.
A nice array of drumheads from named trains adorns the wall.
In a side room, there is an exhibit on all the models of the ill-fated Aero-Train.
Things are beautifully preserved in this collection. If you have the chance to stop there, do it.
My driving led me into the town of Monon, IN. There is a yard at one end of town, and a wye for turning trains.
A well preserved Monon Route caboose inside a park which is inside the railroad wye.
Neat track alignment. I did not see any trains moving at the time I drove through, but the tracks were in use.
That is my contribution for the week.
