This is a 22 mile rail trail over the former Milwaukee Road from East Portal, Montana to Pearson, Idaho. The trail takes you through tunnels and over high steel trestles with spectacular views of the Bitteroot Mountains. Unlike most of the bikers that day, I stopped and read every information marker and photographed everything. The scenery was just spectacular.

Bob, what an incredible ride that must have been! As an avid bike rider and seeker of "things that are old", I envy your journey. If you have other photos (I'm betting you do) and are willing to share, I would certainly enjoy seeing them, either here , or I could send a flash drive/card.
Thanks for the posting!

I uploaded 150 photos of the Hiawatha Trail here. These include scenery as well as bridge and tunnel details.
Here are 40 photos of all the informational markers on the trail.
Enjoy!
