A larger cap should reduce the pop but I'm not sure you can completely eliminate it. You should be able to manually experiment carefully pressing the 2 leads of an additional capacitor to quickly evaluate how much it helps - without soldering that is. I'd think there's a point of diminishing returns at, say, 10uF or so.
