Comparing Hi-Rail S to 2R is a huge savings. Example, a loop to loop pike in S could use hidden 20-27" r return loops. In 2R O those would be 36-48"r loops. Big space savings. In my basement S Hi-rail gives me much more flexibility to design what I want from an operational perspective. What it doesn't have is available product that I want. I only have a little more than 34x9 to work with. Trying to design an operations based layout in larger scales for this space is proving very difficult. Especially when passenger operations are desired.
I will be interested to see what they put in the catalog. I will eat my hat if there is actually new tooling in there as was mentioned above. We shall see. Even after we see a catalog we'll still have to hold our breath waiting to see if they actually deliver what they advertise. How many years late were the F units? Hopefully they have the factory situation straightened out this time.
