I’m a confused 2 rail guy!

That locomotive is really first class and very good looking. Excellent job. What I’m confused about is the scale wheels running on 3 rail track. How does that work out? I know nothing about 3 rail except my old Lionel set back when I was 10 years old and my track was huge and tubular!
