A smart phone which can download the DCS App, Track with a way to connect the wires. I cant really think of anything else. You can connect directly to the explorer's wifi, but its better if you connect the explorer to your home network.

You dont technically need the z-1000. If I remember correctly, the explorer comes with a transformer for small layouts
