MTH End of Train device

....I received this for Christmas and am looking to install it. However, it appears the truck needs to be attached via the topside screw, meaning it requires a certain freight car that would allow this to work? Am I missing something or making this more complicated than it really is? Any suggestions as to certain cars that would work well with this? Thanks....
