The most likely thing I'd guess at is a burnt wick. Adding fluid doesn't work, if it's fully burnt. The fluid doesn't get around the elements where it needs to be.

After that, something went south.

I have to open mine up as well. It worked after I last fixed it. Now it doesn't. I believe it goes thru a lot of fluid!
