MTH NS SD60E Question

Questions:

1) Does mth use the NMRA wheel standards for their scale wheels? If not what dimensions (.145 or .114) do they use?

2) Though mth scale locomotives are below Atlas Trainman standards, has anyone corrected the "handrails on a stick" toy problem?

3) I am considering ordering these to do a complete make over as they most likely will not be done in brass any time soon. Who would have the best price?

I normally would do without, but these are a must have for me and I have no other choice.
