PREMIER O SCALE CENTER CUPOLA STEEL CABOOSE

Like most pieces of railroad equipment, this caboose was shaped in part by regulatory requirements — in this case, a proposed Pennsylvania law requiring cabooses on through freights to be 8-wheeled and at least 24’ long. Based on a wood-sheathed 1920 USRA design, this steel caboose was a 1924 Reading Company design that became so widespread in the mid-Atlantic region that railfans dubbed it the Northeastern Caboose.

Besides the Reading, original owners included the Western Maryland, Lehigh Valley, Central Railroad of New Jersey, and several other lines. Through mergers and acquisitions, these "crummies" eventually found themselves in new paint schemes ranging from Chessie System yellow to Conrail blue. Later in life, many went to second and third owners as far afield as Maine, Ohio, Iowa, and Louisiana.

The Staten Island Rapid Transit Operating Authority was a subsidiary of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The railroad was previously owned by the Baltimore & Ohio.

The caboose is only available directly from Bergen County Model Railroad Club on a first-come, first-served basis. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity! Download the order form HERE.

M.T.H. Electric Trains has provided Cabin Fever Auctions - the auction company managing M.T.H.'s archive auctions - with several select pieces of artwork commissioned for covers of past O Gauge catalogs as part of this week's Cabin Fever auction. Each of the paintings - like the cover to the left - was painted by a local Maryland artist and used as the cover image on M.T.H. O Gauge catalogs between 1995 and 1998. A total of 11 catalogs used such paintings for their covers and each was themed with input from M.T.H. owner Mike Wolf and the M.T.H. marketing team. Many are based on classic renderings used throughout the history of O Gauge model railroading, but with a decidedly "MTH" theme.
