I've been converting my diesels not equipped with command control to ERR TMCC. I've been thinking about picking up an older MTH Premier Santa Fe 2900 class Northern at some point and converting it to PS3. According to MTH the older models have a 054 minimum curve: https://www.mthtrains.com/20-3013-1

I have some 054 curves on my layout so it sounds like it would work on that part of my layout. Has anyone run one of these locomotives on 054 curves? Did it run ok? How much overhang does it have on 054? I have a MTH Premier Southern Pacific GS4 Northern and it works on 054 fine but the 2900 class is a larger locomotive.

Hello Lou1985

Why not get the MTH Railking version of the A.T.S.F  2900 class 4-8-4 , it is in smaller size but will look good on 0-54 curves.  I have a Sunset A.T.S.F 5011 (scale brass) and it looks really bad on 0-54 when my husband and I went to Sunset headquarters to pick it up in 2012 and Scott Mann was showing this engine to us running on 0-54 and we were very surprised it can even crawl on those curves showing huge amounts of overhang , really looks very bad.    After we bought it home we used Atlas 0-99 curves on the carpet of our bigger apt as we had the space for it but even the 5011 had some overhang on those curves as it is scale 3 feet longer than the 2900 is with the same 16 wheel tender.   We had to move to smaller apt and now the 0-99 curves are too big so we have 0-72 curves but then we bought the MTH Railking U.P. Challenger which looks really at home on 0-72 the overhang of this smaller size Challenger is very small.    If the overhang bothers you that much then go to smaller size locomotive of the 2900 Railking version.   The overhang bothers me too.   Give it some thought, just saying......

I'm not concerned about a Premier 2900 class looking silly on 054 curves, I'm concerned about the overhang hitting rolling stock on the adjacent track.

A Rail King 2900 class is not in the picture. It would be dwarfed by my Premier Santa Fe 3460 class Hudson and Premier Southern Pacific GS4 Northern, not to mention the other scale size diesels I own.
