I'd try it without the traction tires, if it still does it then you know they are not the problem. If it doesn't then no need for further detective work.
If they are too wide, they may not be rubbing but with the load may twist the truck slightly and you loose the common connection. It is more of an issue where BOTH outer rails are not connected to each other. Don't give up! (At least not yet
