I use Realtrax and Gargraves, because I got a great deal on a lot of Gargraves track, and because I started with MTH Track.
As as far as the point of contact tabs-those who have issues with them are 99% of the problem. What I call cockpit error-because I have reused my MTH track numerous times with no problem...and on the odd occasion I have had to realign the tabs-it’s a simple fix with needle nose pliers.
I did get some old solid rail 10” stock that was not kept in proper storage and it became brittle, but electrically, I have had no issues.
My advice is buy the best turnouts you can afford-the headaches you stop will be your own.
As far as track-buy the best you can afford that pleases your eye.
And take the time to test each section as you construct your Road.
