MTH SD60M with Proto sound 1 . Can dirty track reprogram the loco

Sorry guys, I am sure you’ve heard this a thousand times. I bought a Proto sound 1 loco on eBay. Was supposed to be new never run. When I got it it showed signs of a lot of use. I protested to the seller and got enough of a refund to make it worthwhile to keep. I cleaned it up and started running it. A portion of my track got dirty and the loco would stop still making motor noises. You can shut the throttle down to zero and power it up, it sits and makes noises like it’s accelerating and doesn’t move in forward and reverse. If you let it sit overnight it will work fine. I installed a BCR that I ordered before I received the loco. I think hitting the stretch of dirty track at speed sent it a series of power on power off signals which has sent it into some alternate setting of the logics.

any ideas how to get it reliable again ?

Thank you, Norman new guy.

Just an update, apparently it’s the body screws causing the issues, I decided to have the body off again to check a theory. I set the body back on and it ran perfectly. Proud of myself I put the screws back in and it refused to run. Took screws out , it runs perfectly. I suspect tightening screws causes a racking of the chassis which effects a circuit board or a connection.
