MTH tender backup light

Been digging out some engines I haven't run in awhile. I have three older mth. A berkshire, Mohawk and a yellow belly hudson that I would to install backup lights in the tenders. I have identified the two wires ( yellow and white) that go to the motors from the reversing board that might work for what I want to accomplish but the voltage is too high for a led, almost eight volts dc using a 1033 on the bench. I don't know much about electronics so I was wondering if someone could help figure out what I would need to lower the voltage to make this work. Thanks
