Mth transformer compatibility

I have a customer that wants me to troubleshoot a MTH #1757 UP. Do I need a MTH transformer to power this up while working on it or can a Lionel kw or 1033 operate it with out damaging the electronics. I know a Lionel doesn’t have a bell or whistle function so that’s already a problem But I don’t have a mth power supply and I’m really not really experienced on these trains either.
