Reply to "Mth transformer compatibility"

Rob a couple of questions.  Remind me whether you need TVS diodes in only one lead or both the common and positive lines please?  I have assumed one lead was sufficient.

EVERY transformer needs Transient Voltage Suppression in the form of bidirectional TVS diodes placed in parallel with the power supply.

Would you also recommend a modern electronic circuit breaker in the line  to the track for a postwar transformer such as a 1033 or KW/ZW operating modern (say 1995-present) MTH (or Lionel) locomotive electronics?

I would not, as that would make me a hypocrite because I don't use them. The breakers in all of my transformers, PowerHouses, and PowerMasters work perfectly as designed, and do not pose a threat to the electronics on board when Transient Voltage Suppression is used in conjunction with the factory breakers.
