MTH V&T Loco Pickup Roller Dropping into Switches

I think I have this figured out, but wondered if anyone has had a similar problem.

My V&T Tahoe (recently upgraded by The Train Shack to DCS 3.0) has pickup rollers that are the precise size of the space between the rails when switched. See the picture. I am thinking of gluing in a small piece of polystyrene to elongate the guard rail. Thoughts? .
