Did the in service Challengers have white class lights? All my books are black and white with no color, so impossible to tell.

All class lights, from various manufactures, had three colors available, i.e. White, Green, and red. By simply flipping a small lever on the side of the class light, a green or red lease was then placed behind the "white", or clear lens. Thus, to answer your question directly, most UP steam power carried "white" class lights, unless they were backing up as light engine, or assigned to passenger service as a second train )green for second section following).
