Whats wrong with the tether board? It has four connections. One goes to the pickup rollers, one directly to the chassis and the other two to the motor. If there is a crack in one of PC traces you can solder that wire directly to the pin behind the connector housing.

The Atlas Erie-Built couplers (part # 680805) are available from Atlas.  Those couplers are standard on several of their models.

Norton - The tether board BARELY works. Last time I ran the locomotive, it was struggling to change direction when I tried to cycle through the electronic E-unit. I don't know if it's possible to see in the picture, but the little metal strips look like they are coming up like a worn-out carpet. And you might be right - I could just solder the wires directly to the back of the plug itself, but I guess I'd rather save that method as a last resort. I have no idea why they didn't do that in the first place, but I still don't know too much about electronics, let alone in model trains, haha!

Bob - I actually couldn't find the couplers on the Atlas website, and I even typed in the item number itself. If I have to, maybe I could call up customer service and see if they could help me out if there is no other place that sells spare parts for Atlas locomotives.
