I had that with the crane. Would work, then come back later, won't work. Put it on the shelf for a week. Put it on the track, would work, etc, etc... Tried a bunch of things. Went on for maybe five years or more.
Finally sent it back to a Lionel and everything is fine.
I have the first edition Pennsy. Not a good idea to get a first run on a product like this. The bugs haven't been worked out yet. Great model when it works. Good luck with your's.
