Need Information on a American Flyer 762 Whistle Billboard

I bought a 762 AF Whistle Billboard at the Rail Fest train show in Gulfport, MS Saturday. It was a good show with a few O gauge train sellers their and lots of operating layouts. The 762 is in poor shape and the wires are cut short and messed up. I have not had much luck finding info and there maybe confusion if it is a really a 762 or another similar model. I do not want to hook it up to the track, just to a train transformer with a button switch.

I see the motor and the whistle box. There is also a solenoid that works a lever that covers one of the whistle ports or not. Is this for a two tone Whistle?

I need help in finding out what this solenoid and lever do and whether I need them or not and how to wire them and or the 577 motor of the whistle.
