new layout, command control switches and power questions

I have finally gotten to the point of putting a layout together. Train table is constructed, plywood and homasote is down, along with track loosely to make sure connections fit. Next big step is wiring and power. I am using a zwl to power the track and accessories. Plan is to run legacy, lionchief and/or conventional lionel trains with fastrack command control switches.  Before jumping into next step, I have a couple of questions:

1.  I am going to wire the track to power distribution boards for each channel of transformer. The A channel will be for legacy and lionchief. I know that I need to set that channel to 18v each time I turn on the transformer. I was going to wire the D channel for any trains that run on conventional power - childhood trains.  Is this correct? B and C channels will be for accessories.

2. the fastrack switches come with the remote control throw switch already attached. For command control (plan is to use lcs and wire the switches to an smt2) do I simply remove the remote control throw switch from the four connections underneath the switch?

3. if i want to be able to also use the remote control throw switches, can i leave them in place and just attach the wiring for the stm2?

4. Is there a simple way to extend the wiring for the remote control throw switches? Some of my switches are much further from my control area than the length of the wiring on the controller.

Thanks for your help.
