Hi Dave, my GN Atlantic has the same issue, so you are not alone. I am not going to sent it in for repair, I find I am using conventional less and less, and according to the manual, this engine runs in Legacy, Bluetooth, and with the LionChief remote. I have used the Legacy and Bluetooth, but have not yet tested it with the LioneChief remote. So, with those options, it allows for the coupler to be used and all of the whisle and sound functions. For that reason, I don't think many will want to go though all of the hassle on sending it back to Lionel for a repair.
The problem with the manual on where to put the smoke fluid in the whisle is a huge issue, and feel fortunate that this problem has been identifed in the OGR Forum so many thanks to you guys!
Thanks for the confirmation on the problem with Conventional running. We tried three units at my dealer, and they all exhibited the problem. Sounds systemic, but I imagine very few will really care about it since they, like you, will run in some form of Command instead.
