I will look at the Santa Fe 3751-Class 4-8-4, as I think it will be a good fit on my layout.  I'll probably sell my Sunset brass 2900 Class 4-8-4 to partially finance it, as the Sunset engine is just a bit too large for my layout.  It yearns for longer stretches of straight track.

I was about to respond with a "but these 2 classes are close to the same size" - and they are - but I just threw a yardstick on my Lionel 3271 and my MTH 2903 and did come up with a difference of about 4", including tenders, which is where a lot of the difference resides. This surprised me, but I haven't run either for years.

Still, I wonder how much more "compact" the 3751-class loco will look, compared to the 2900's? Those 2900's - zowie. I do need to make my shelf queen PS-1 version an ERR command loco.
