I believe that the model train market has reached a point where the demographics of those that buy the trains plays more heavily into the decision making process of the train companies for new products . The focus now seems to be mainly in the narrow market niche for the premium full featured trains. While I appreciate the, strategy not all train operators and collectors participate in this market. At this point perhaps the conventional operator may have few choices.
That's a great perspective, and you are right as the manufactures now have this idea to "Target" there sales they may not realize there will be a wall they will hit with the high end market, And even the medium market with the same stuff, There is only so much you can put into a locomotive I hope they will find out people will get to the point when they just look at a catalog and sigh. I am not picking on any one manufacture its the same with all of them, I pray that this is not the norm but if it is then maybe my days of buying new or BTO will come to a end, I guess I miss the days when you looked at the catalog and said "WOW" I just don't get that way anymore
I get more excited over the newest offerings from Menards then the new Lionel Catalog how sad is that
