Added an elevated oil tank, small yard tower, sand tower and small detail parts to the turntable area.
On the lighted Lionel elevated oil tank, I painted the base black and the small pad green and added weathering to the tank (hard to see in the photo). I also added ballast to the inside of the base. The walkway that came with it was too large for the area, so I cut the mounting tabs off the ends and weathered it and placed it next to the B&M Rocket flatcar as a repair stand.
Weathered the MTH lighted Yard Tower. I also installed two Lionel LED yard lights - one on each side of the roundhouse. They are wired together underneath the layout and connected to one of the LED lighted switches on the side of the layout, so I can turn them on and off, as needed.
The sand tower came from Lionel all silver/chrome color, so I painted everything a flat concrete color and then painted the railings silver and the ladder a flat red. It was then weathered and put in place. It comes with a metal base into which the legs are already attached so you can just lay your track over it but, since my whisker tracks were already in place and ballasted, I removed the legs from the base and then pressed them into the foam top of the layout across the track.
The side of the roundhouse has 2 trash clusters and dumpsters from Model Tech that I added some weathering to. I hand painted the acetylene torch tank cluster and weathered them, as well. The large oil drum is a Bar Mills kit that was painted and weathered - very nice kit, btw.
I added some more people around the area and put a small electric transformer and container out back of the roundhouse.
The final step will be to make the roof sections out of lucite/plexiglass so the detailed inside will be open for viewing.
