The Mountaineer is a stripping shovel built by the Marion Power Shovel Company, based in Marion, Ohio, ca. 1955. Stripping shovels remove overburden, which is dirt lying above a seam of coal; this allows the coal to be mined. The Mountaineer was operated near Cadiz in Harrison County, Ohio, from 1956 to 1979.
