What was the reason the prototype units were painted in U.S. railroad liveries? Just to be different or to try to sell the locos in America?

Just to elaborate on the previous post, the "Great Northern" locomotive was painted in the GN scheme and used in the filming of "Dancer in the Dark", a Danish film set in the Pacific Northwest which was released in 2000.

 

Below is a link to an enjoyable website dedicated to NOHAB units. I just may have to get a book or two as I don't have anything NOHAB related on the shelf at the present time.
