Totally agree the Railsounds are spectacular, BUT it still bugs me and feel Lionel dropped the ball when they decided (except for Vision Line items) to no longer specifically call out/identify the locomotive by its roadname and/or cab number (i.e. "Norfolk & Western 611..." or just ""611" ...you've got the green"".  This specific cab identification, IMHO gave Lionel locomotives a distinct advantage over everyone else especially when it came from their still superior quality sound system.  The irony is that MTH is now offering some specific roadname/cab/route/geographic sound info to some of their newer offerings.  The MTH sound quality or fidelity still does not meet or exceed Lionel, but MTH continues to reduce that gap.  As to why or the reasons Lionel decided to move to the "generic" tower-com announcements is debatable especially since sound editing seems much easier and likely at a relatively lower cost than what was available 15+ years ago.  My guess is that Lionel felt the generic route was the "K.I.S.S." method that had marginal cost savings and also reduced the chance of sound-file mix-up.

Nonetheless, that N&W J sounds great.
