As a rough guideline, Lionel’s pup trailers are: tandem axle, square nose on trailer; single axle, rounded nose on trailer. The trailers and flatcars are not interchangeable, because of the relative position of the chocks on the different trailers, to accommodate the different axle configurations.

Tandem axle vans - Wabash, Western Maryland, NKP, Katy, Frisco, NY Central Flatcar w/ Gleason/Sasib vans. There may be others I’m unaware of.
