My home system is v1.52. The club's is 1.6x. Would the club CAB-2 work alright with my base, or should I just bring the entire unit?

The most likely culprit is the CAB2. To test this you should try another CAB2 with the base at the club. For what you are trying to diagnose, your 1.52 CAB2 should be fine to prove that the new CAB2 could have an issue with the rotary encoder.
