Odyssey-on or off for multiple units running?

When running multiple units together aka L--h- up, which is better or preferred? Odyssey on or off?

I have a #4979 UP SD-70-the flag one and #4980 UP SD-70-the one from the overland set and want to run them together as a TR. They are both TMCC engines running on a flat layout surface and using Legacy to control them. Seems to me that both almost start out at the same speed with odyssey on but do run together with it turned off.

Which is better to do? Should I set the momentum higher on each individual unit, then put them together? You would think that since these engines are really alike, they would operate together but Lionel's first odyssey system is subpar in comparison to MTH's system.
