When deciding on external power protect, I think you should consider trip time. The problem with many thermal circuit breakers is that they can take a long time to trip.
That is why I like electromagnetic breakers, they trip instantly.
I think people have posted about electronic breakers that trip quickly. I am not familiar with them.
