For Ho it is two inches apart on Straight modules 5" & 7" on centers from the front of module . If I remember right .
for On30, I would guess 2 & 1/2 min on straights .

2 1/2 in is 10 scale ft, a bit tight. NMRA recommended clearance for pre-1920 equipment is 12 ft, 3 actual inches. On curves the track separation requirement can go way up, depending on your equipment (e.g. a 2-6-6-2 requires more than say a 0-4-0 Porter)
