Paint removal was discussed herein maybe 3-6 months ago & as I recall, your removal solvent choice will depend on your train manufacturer, due to the different factory paints they used. For example, I am stripping an MTH plastic engine now using isopropyl alcohol. Try the Forum Search feature and you should pull out some helpful leads.
