Reply to "painting chrome?"

Thanks for the advice Pappy, I have always wanted to get rid of the chrome, just really never had the time, still working on the 1-1 railroad to much, but that should come to an end in July, I think.

I have painted with an air brush but haven't done that in a number of years. I am thinking I will try and pry the horns off the cab roof and soak them to get the chrome off. Even though it is not something that would get touched much, I just don't think that painting right over the chrome would be a good surface for paint to stick to.

Thanks to all who have responded for their suggestions.

PS: I just looked at the picture of the units I was going to do, it has two horns.

I really wanted to replace them with one set of 5 chimes horns like the T&P units had, but the only ones I found were about 20 dollars a pop to put together. I just can't see that for the little bit of difference it would make, I would be the only one who knew!

In the picture, I painted the MTH GP18 (was a TC&W GP20), but have a pair of stock T&P MTH geeps that have the chrome horns.
