Painting of Lionel M7 Shells

Question, I’m thinking of doing a little project with one of the Lionel M7 shells and just want to know ahead of time.

I’m not aware of the kind of material that the shells are made of, but I would want a type of paint that one I spray it will adhere to the shell and also not have any negative chemical reactions on it like eating away at it. Also thinking of painting the interior with some sort of a cream/white colored coat in order to stop the bleeding of the interior lighting through the shell skin that was cheaply made by Lionel. mad
