That's a mystery question for Steve Jobs! Doesn't Apple require you to have iTunes (or some sort of Apple only software?) to download images to your computer?
Have you tried doing a post directly from your phone?

Plug in your iPhone to your PC with the USB cable provided with the iPhone. The iPhone will ask to let the PC access it. Once you accept, go to explorer and find the iPhone as a drive. Click until you get to the DCIM folder. All your pictures are there for copying.
