I've done numerous repairs on broken posts. Cut a straw and use it for a mold then fill it up with JB Weld. After it sets simply drill out the hole. Depending upon the size of the screw you'll have to use a numbered drill to get the right size. Any good tool store will have numbered drills. I don't have access to my charts right now or I'd tell you what size drill to use. I am sure someone will chime in with the proper drill size. I presume you are going to use self-tapping screws.
