Postwar Lionel #6520 searchlight car help.

Hello all!

I've recently inherited a 6520 searchlight car. The light was not working (I eventually learned there was an electro switch under the car) so I took out the light bulb to inspect it. What I discovered was a spring and some sort of insulator that is in pretty bad shape.  When I did get the light working if I moved the wire around a bit there were some sparks so I know the insulator is shot and was touching or arcing or something.

My question is how can I fix this? Is there an easy homemade way to reproduce this insulator?  And exactly how are the insulator and spring supposed to sit in the housing? When I took the lightbulb out the spring was directly under it, which didn't really make sense to me because there seemed to be nothing from keeping the spring from touching the housing or the center contact point. Was the spring supposed to be behind the insulator and just worked its way past because it was crumbling?   If anyone can talk me through this or post a picture of how everything is supposed to be setup behind the lightbulb that would be great!

Thank you!
